Forthcoming: a statistical information system for foreign trade
Under the leadership of the National Instituteof Statistics (NIS), Cameroon is finalizing preparations for the rollout of an Integrated and Intelligent Statistical Information System (SISII) dedicated to managing foreign trade data.
This initiative, part of a broader ambition to profoundly transform the management of trade flows, aims to establish a unique and sophisticated platform. The goal is to efficiently centralize, process, and analyze Cameroon's exchanges with the rest of the world, thereby ensuring greater transparency in operations.
A decision-support tool for the industrial sector
This new system is designed to be a genuine decision-support tool. It will serve to:
- Facilitate interoperability between the systems of key administrations, notably Customs, the Single Window (GUCE), the ports of Douala (PAD) and Kribi (PAK), as well as the SGS.
- Produce relevant and actionable information for monitoring national development programs.
- Provide decision-makers with critical indicators essential for steering corporate strategies and public policies.
A lever for the competitiveness of local SMEs
For stakeholders in industrial subcontracting, this project presents an opportunity to bridge the information gap. By accessing reliable and instantaneous statistical data, local SMEs will be better equipped to identify demand trends and adjust their production capacities to meet international trade requirements.
This extensive modernization project benefits from substantial support from the World Bank, through a 63.5 billion FCFA credit agreement signed in January 2025. This funding, drawn from the HISWACA project, underscores the importance placed on the reliability of economic indicators for Cameroon's prosperous future.
Through this future "integrated and intelligent" system, Cameroon intends not only to enhance the performance of its statistical system but also to ensure the adoption of international standards for the rigorous monitoring of its growth.
