Northwest innovation youth challenge : innovation rewarded in bamenda

The competition held on February 20th saw six young talents from the Northwest Region receive awards. With grants of up to 2.5 million FCFA, this initiative by MINPMEESA and the NGO GHSS aims to propel high-impact local solutions.

On February 20th, 2026, the city of Bamenda became the epic enter of entrepreneurial creativity. During the "North west Innovation Youth Challenge," organized by the NGO GHSS in partnership with the MINPMEESA Northwest Regional Delegation, local youth demonstrated their technological and social expertise. This challenge had a clear objective: to identify and promote innovators capable of transforming the region's economic landscape. Out of the 20 young people mobilized for this high-level competition, six stood out thanks to the quality and viability of their projects.

The winners received significant grants, ranging from 1,000,000 FCFA to 2,500,000 FCFA. These rewards are not mereprizes, but true seed funding intended to finance the technical and commercial development of these young startups. The rigorous selection process ensures that only the most promising solutions, capable of meeting real market needs, benefit from this financial and institutional support.

A pool of expertise for local subcontracting

For the SPX-CMR, the emergence of such talent in the Northwest is a strong signal for contractors seeking innovative local solutions. "Innovation is the engine of competitiveness. By supporting these young people, MINPMEESA is preparing the next generation of technological subcontractors, capable of providing agile responses to the challenges faced by major industries," explained a sector observer.

This support dynamic is perfectly aligned with the upgrading strategy for Cameroonian SMEs. By encouraging excellence right from the innovation phase, the Northwest Region is building a pool of companies with high growth potential. "We have seen projects capable of revolutionizing certain local services. Our role is to ensure that this talentis mentored to become prosperous and sustainable businesses," stated the organizers. More than just an award ceremony, this challenge confirms that the youth of the Northwest are ready to meet the challenges of economic modernity.
