Melong : minpmeesa mobilizes 4 million fcfa for the empowerment of young farmers
As part of the promotion of collective entrepreneurship, a ceremony for the handover of agricultural equipment was held on February 26, 2026, at the Melong Town Hall. This direct support to the JAFERMEL GIC (Common Initiative Group) illustrates the effectiveness of there source transfer mechanism to Local Authorities (CTDs) to revitalize the local productive fabric.
The State's commitment to grass roots development has reached a new milestone in the Moungo Division. Through the "Support for Local Development Initiatives" program, MINPMEESA has facilitated the transfer of competencies and resources to 120 municipalities across the national territory. In Melong, this investment of 4,000,000 FCFA, spear headed by the Divisional Delegate Mr. Jules Ferry Metouke, translates into the provision of a comprehensive technical arsenal: motor pumps, sprayers, brushcutters, and personal protective equipment.
The Mayor of the Municipality, Mr. Jean Kuete, welcomed this harmonious collaboration, which turns the ambitions of young farmers into tangible economic realities. By equipping the GIC of Young Farmers of Melong (JAFERMEL) with modern tools, the goal is to shift from subsistence farming to a true entrepreneurial venture, capable of generating added value within the regional agro-industrial value chain.
A lever for integrating youth into agricultural value chains
For the SPX-CMR, the reinforcement of these local initiatives is a fundamental pillar for building solid agricultural "LocalContent." Equipping these young entrepreneurs reduces the physical burden of labor while increasing yields, making these cooperatives better suited to become reliable suppliers for major agro-food industries.
"The transition to mechanized and structured agriculture is a sine qua non for our youth to capture subcontracting opportunities in the processing sector. This equipment is not a gift; it is an investment in tomorrow's productivity," emphasizes a social economy expert. This concrete action helps reduce the gap between the needs of major contractors and the capacities of the local supply.
This modernization dynamic, supported by the 2025 budget, confirms the government's will to make the social economy a driver of inclusive growth. For SPX members, the case of Melong demonstrates that organizing into GICs, supported by rigorous technical guidance, remains a winning model for sustainable integration into the formal and competitive economy.
