Blue economy and geosciences: minmidt backs the 4th scg symposium in bertoua

The Acting Minister of Mines, Industry, and Technological Development, Pr. Fuh Calistus Gentry, granted an audience on March 4, 2026, to the leaders of the Cameroonian Society of Geosciences(SCG). According to the MINMIDT Communication Unit, this meeting marks a key milestone in aligning scientific research with national mining policy.

Themed "building a sustainable blue economy together," this 4th edition will take place at the University of Bertoua from March 25 to 27. The delegation, led by Pr. Akono Omgba(Vice-Rector in charge of Internal Control and Evaluation), presented the project which aims to bring together experts, policy makers, and professionals to strengthen synergies with socio-economic actors. The Minister lauded the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to supporting the scholarly society in leveraging geosciences for industrial development.

Expert analysis: Geosciences as a driver for high-value subcontracting

For the SPX-CMR, integrating geosciences into industrial strategy is a major lever for developing Local Content in the extractive sector.

"Mastering scientific data is the key to transforming natural resources into sustainable industrial opportunities. This collaboration between the SCG, the University of Bertoua, and MINMIDT demonstrates the State's determination to build a resilient blue economy while ensuring ecosystem-friendly resource management," notes a SPX expert.
