Financial inclusion : minpmeesa launches educational fact sheets to inform entrepreneurs on banking services
On March 12, 2026, in Yaoundé, the Minister of SMEs, Social Economy, and Handicrafts, Achille Bassilekin III—representing the Minister of Finance—officially launched educational fact sheets on financial rates and services. Developed by the National Economic and Financial Committee(CNEF), this initiative aims to break the information asymmetry that too often penalizes users of the Cameroonian banking system.
The findings of the 2022 CNEF report are striking: more than 68% of clients are unaware of the free banking services to which they are entitled. Furthermore, a majority of users open accounts without mastering interest calculation mechanisms or understanding the information obligations of banks.
To address these gaps, the government is deploying educational tools covering savings accounts, the pricing of payment incidents (such as bounced checks), and consumer rights. This approach is integrated into the SND30 (National Development Strategy 2030) and benefits from the support of the BEAC, aligning with the Regional Financial Inclusion Strategy within the CEMAC zone.

For the SPX-CMR, the appropriation of these banking services is a key issue for the operational performance of SMEs. The widespread distribution of these fact sheets—through banks, microfinance institutions, and employers' organizations—is intended to strengthen confidence in the financial system. By reducing the information deficit, Cameroon is laying the ground work for a more dynamic financial market, capable of sustainably supporting the country's industrialization and economic transformation.
