World water day: equitable access to water as a lever for empowerment and industrial performance
On March 22, 2026, Cameroon joins theinternational community in celebrating the 34th edition of World Water Day.Centered around the national sub-theme "Water and Gender," this commemoration highlights that access to "blue gold" is a determining factor for equal opportunity and social justice.
Water is far more than a vital resource for domestic consumption; it is the foundation of public health, food security, and economic support. Yet, disparities in access persist, weighing disproportionately on women and girls, who are often tasked with water collection at the expense of their education and productive activities. By placing gender at the heart of this celebration, the government reiterates that guaranteeing equitable access to water is a major requirement for building an inclusive and supportive society.
A competitiveness criterion for subcontracting
For the SPX-CMR, the "Water and Gender" theme resonates with the challenges of SME modernization and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
"Water is a critical resource for many industrial processes. For the SPX-CMR, integrating the gender dimension into water management means optimizing the human capital within our SMEs. By facilitating access to water and sanitation, companies improve the health of their employees and unlock the productive potential of women. An SME that adopts sustainable water management technologies not only strengthens its resilience to climate change but also improves its CSR score—a criterion increasingly scrutinized by major international contractors," explains the Head of the Environment and CSR Unit at the SPX-CMR.
Beyond the domestic sphere, water is central to global challenges of social peace and sustainable development. By making water access a right for all and a lever for empowerment, Cameroon aligns with the vision of a fairer economy, where every resource is valued for collective well-being and industrial growth.
