Socadel: board of directors and top management officially appointed

Only a few hours after the announcement of ENEO’s transformation into the Société Camerounaise d’Electricité (SOCADEL), the President of the Republic appointed the board members and executive directors of the new entity.

A strategic board of directors

The board of directors of SOCADEL was established by Presidential Decree No. 2026/165 on May 4, 2026. With a three-year mandate (renewable once), the board's composition reflects a clear intent for inter-ministerial and technical coordination to address the nation’s energy challenges. Key strategic appointments include:

  • Antoine Ntsimi, appointed by the President of the Republic.
  • Fidèle Makonda, representing the Presidency of the Republic.
  • Célestin Chameni Nemboua, representing the Prime Minister's Office.
  • Adolphe Thome, representing the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy.
  • Gilbert Didier Edoa, representing the Ministry of Finance.
  • Tom Ahmat, representing the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development.

Integration of key sector players

To ensure seamless synergy between production, transmission, and distribution, the heads of major state energy corporations have also joined the board:

  • Victor Mbeumi Nyaknga, CEO of the National Electricity Transmission Company (SONATREL).
  • Théodore Nsangou, CEO of the Electricity Development Corporation (EDC).

Next steps and executive leadership

In accordance with Article 2 of the decree, the name of the elected staff representative will be communicated to the Board Chairman at a later date.

To finalize this leadership roll out, the board members met in Yaounde on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, to appoint the top management. The new executive team is as follows:

  • Board Chairman: Antoine Ntsimi (former Minister of Finance).
  • General Manager: Oumarou Hamandjoda (former Deputy GM of Eneo).
  • Deputy General Manager: Jean Basile Ekobena.

This high-level team is now tasked with steering the transition to SOCADEL, ensuring grid stability, and implementing the structural reforms expected by consumers and development partners.
