Interview protocol addressed to mr. thierry tene, associate director of afrique csr.

As part of an article we would like to write about the agreement sealed by your organization with SPX-CMR, we would appreciate your responses to this questionnaire.

  1. Afrique RSE, of which you are the Associate Director, has signed a partnership agreement with SPX-CMR. What justifies this commitment, and why at this particular moment?
    This commitment is very significant as it represents a groundbreaking initiative in our country to mobilize subcontracting SMEs around Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability.

  2. What is the purpose of this partnership, and what does it contribute to the promotion and development of subcontracting businesses?
    The objectives of this partnership project are:

    • Training and capacity building for Cameroonian subcontracting SMEs on CSR and sustainability;
    • Conducting CSR diagnostics for subcontracting SMEs based on the ISO 26000 standard;
    • Contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Cameroonian subcontracting SMEs;
    • Developing CSR policies aligned with the SDGs for Cameroonian subcontracting SMEs;
    • Certifying Cameroonian subcontracting SMEs with the DOING GOOD IN AFRICA (DGIA) label.
      By the end of the project, we aim to have 100 Cameroonian subcontracting SMEs committed to sustainability and the DOING GOOD IN AFRICA (DGIA) label.
  3. What are the obligations of Afrique RSE in this agreement, and how does your institution intend to implement them?
    Here are our obligations:

    • Design activities and reference tools on CSR, ESG, SDGs, sustainability, and impact investment tailored to the stakeholders of SPX-CMR;
    • Provide technical and material resources and any other necessary means for the execution of missions;
    • Deploy training adapted to CSR, SDG, ESG, and sustainability challenges;
    • Assist SPX-CMR and its stakeholders with all services related to CSR, ESG, and sustainability;
    • Produce the DOING GOOD IN AFRICA REVIEW, the reference publication on sustainability in Africa;
    • Deploy the DOING GOOD IN AFRICA label;
    • Mobilize its network to seek funding.
  4. How does CSR impact the development of SMEs?
    Please support your answers with specific examples. CSR significantly impacts the development of SMEs as it improves their operations, productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness. CSR has also become an essential factor for market access. Specifically, large contractors require their business partners to implement sustainability practices. SMEs that do not engage in CSR risk exclusion from these opportunities.

  5. Can we learn more about Afrique RSE?
    Afrique RSE is a pan-African group specializing in CSR, ESG, and sustainability. Afrique RSE and DOING GOOD IN AFRICA (DGIA) are available to governments, businesses, investment promotion agencies, and private sector organizations (employers' associations, chambers of commerce, subcontracting exchanges, etc.) across Africa to train and assist them in designing, implementing, and monitoring CSR, ESG, and a circular, sustainable, and decarbonized economy.

  6. What additional remarks would you like to make about this agreement you have just signed?
    We are calling on financial partners, particularly large contracting companies, to fund the project "100 Cameroonian Subcontracting SMEs Committed to Sustainability and the DOING GOOD IN AFRICA (DGIA) Label."
