Road infrastructure: sinohydro consortium selected for the bingambo–grandzambi section

The awarding of this 43 km contract, worth 38.7billion FCFA, marks a crucial milestone in the completion of the Olama–Kribi axis. This major project notably includes the construction of a viaduct and seven bridges to streamline the corridor leading to the deep-sea port.

On February 20th, the Minister of Public Works, acting as the Contracting Authority, officialized the choice of partner for Lot 2 of the Olama–Kribi road. The consortium SINOHYDRO Corporation Ltd / SINOHYDRO Bureau 14 Co. Ltd has been selected to construct the 43 km stretch separating Bingambo from Grandzambi, in the Ocean Department. Jointly funded by the State of Cameroon and a pool of international donors (BADEA, Saudi Fund, Abu DhabiFund, and the Kuwait Fund), this project has a total budget of 38.7 billion FCFA (inclusive of taxes) and an execution period of 24 months.

The project goes beyond simple road paving. The specifications require the construction of complex engineering structures, including seven medium-span bridges, an impressive 119-meter viaduct, and over 2,200 linear meters of culverts. In addition to the road infrastructure, several socio-economic facilities are planned for the surrounding communities. This section is strategic: it aims to drastically reduce transportation and vehicle maintenance costs while consolidating the Kribi corridor's role as a major logistics hub for trade toward Chad and Equatorial Guinea.

A Growth Opportunity for Local Subcontracting

For the SPX-CMR, the launch ofthis 24-month project represents a major opportunity for local SMEs specializing in public works and related services. "A project worth nearly 39 billion FCFA generates immense subcontracting needs: material supply, machinery maintenance, logistics, and even civil engineering services," explains an industry expert. The quality requirements associated with this type of international financing make it mandatory for local companies to hold arigorous accreditation to be eligible.

This large-scale project dynamic reinforces the need for Cameroonian SMEs to align with international standards. "The arrival of major groups like SINOHYDRO on structural projects creates a bridge between international expertise and local know-how. For our SMEs, integrating into the value chain of such a project is a guarantee of skill enhancement and financial credibility, " highlights an economic analyst. By facilitating access to the Port of Kribi, this road does more than just open upa region; it directly boosts the competitiveness of Cameroonian "Local Content" within the sub-regional market.
