Cameroon-eu cooperation : strategic acceleration of the capital’s structural projects

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtès, received a high-level mission from the European Commission on February 27, 2026. At the heart of the discussions: the operationalization of the Minkoameyos interchange and the alignment of major road projects with the "Global Gateway" strategy.

The modernization of Yaoundé’s urban landscape has reached a decisive milestone with the support of the European Union. The mission, led by Mr. Sergio Oliete, Head of the Sustainable Transport Unit at the Directorate-General for International Partnerships, validated the technical progress of the capital’s Bypass Road project. This nodal point, located in Minkoameyos, constitutes the strategic junction between the Yaoundé-Douala highway and the western entrance via Nkolbisson, there by ensuring the fluidity essential to national economic transit.

The stakes of this consultation go beyond a simple technical framework: it is about anchoring these infrastructures in the 2028-2034 agenda of the Global Gateway strategy. This European initiative aims to boost sustainable connections world wide, and Cameroon is positioning itself as a top-tier partner. The Minister welcomed this support which, beyond financing, allows for a crucial transfer of skills to strengthen the performance of national personnel involved in these large-scale projects.

A lever of opportunities for subcontracting in major works

For the SPX-CMR, the acceleration of these structural projects outlines the order books for local SMEs for the next decade. The scale of earthworks, civil engineering, and signaling requires a robust and highly qualified subcontracting chain.

"The Minkoameyos interchange is not just a piece of engineering; it is an ecosystem of opportunities. The quality requirements imposed by European partners via the Global Gateway compel our subcontractors to under go an accelerated technical upgrade," highlights a road infrastructure expert. Integrating Cameroonian companies into these markets is a pillar of the SND30, aiming to maximize local economic benefits for every kilometer of asphalt laid.

The European mission's recognition of the project's performance is a vote of confidence for investors. For the members of the Exchange, this dynamic confirms that mastering international standards and maintaining rigor in execution are the keys to capturing subcontracting contracts linked to the sustainable transformation of our metropolises.
