Emt, the sme that has chosen to register for the duration.
Created thirty years ago, EMT is gradually winning its bet to offer more and more jobs to young people through the diversification of its activities.
In the city of Edéa where it has been based since its creation in 1990, Entreprise multitechnique (EMT) is overflowing with notoriety. Without having the size of Alucam Socatral, the industrial flagship of this city, EMT is just as well known here as the latter. Originally called Edéa Multitechnique, the SME member of the Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange went from an Establishment to a Sarl in 2000 with the name "Multitechnic Company" and kept the same acronym. Its portfolio (customers, turnover, etc.) has grown.
Its promoter had the ambition when it was created, to help the young people of the great maritime Sanaga to fight idleness. Refrigeration technician and former workshop manager, he then intended to stimulate a new dynamic in business life through his concept of “seeing things differently”. His project materialized with EMT, which he registered in the commercial register in 1990, specializing in photography, refrigeration, air conditioning and services. Only two years after its creation, the turmoil of the political struggles for the return to democracy will push EMT to close the doors in 1992 to reopen two years later in 1994.
Difficulties identical to those of all SMEs/SMIs
EMT's move to a higher level has also been accompanied by the diversity of its service offerings. The SME now also provides construction and public works, agricultural work, industrial cleaning, sanitation, water supply and also maintenance work in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Entreprise Multitechnique thus carried out major maintenance from 1998 to 2004 at Socatral, built classrooms, the municipal slaughterhouse of Edéa, among others. Industrial cleaning in the Alucam factory, agricultural work at the Safacam company or the extension of a drinking water network to PHP in Njombe are to his credit.
EMT struggles like all SMEs/SMIs to recover its debts from the State for which it is often a service provider. In addition, payment terms, regardless of the customer, regularly exceed 90 days. “What makes investment or reinvestment difficult or even weak; the mobilization of cash for our operating needs”, regrets Suzanne Nadege Kwedi, director of EMT. She also points out that the covid-19 pandemic has slowed the company's momentum and even forced it to cut 10 to 20% of its certain sites.
A good partner named BSTP
EMT has benefited from the benchmarking tool of the BSTP and is delighted with it. "It allowed us to have visibility on our general performance compared to the competition on the national and global level, strengths to consolidate, points to improve and relevant recommendations which, after their implementation for the most part in make a considerable difference in our practices,” says Suzanne Nadege Kwedi. The SME is also a member of the Mutual Guarantee Company for Subcontracting Companies (SCM-Est Coop CA) created with the assistance of the BSTP. It has also benefited from several training courses, such as that on co-contracting and mutual guarantee mechanisms. "Our greatest wish is to explore and further maximize the use of the BSTP to concretely access new industrial services in the strategic areas of the company, in particular industrial cleaning, construction, why not consider internationalizing in the sub-region? Central Africa”, projects the Director of EMT.
